when should you ask for medicine with a cold sore?

How many cold sore out breaks should you have before asking your doctor for something? Also will they give you something being pregnant??

I had a small cold sore when I woke up on Monday, called my doctor and they prescribed acyclovir- it was gone by Thursday. I hadn't had an outbreak in 2 years, so I thought it'd be bad. I'd call as soon as you think you're getting one, the sooner the better. Also, most dentists will laser them now for $40 or so.

I just used Zilactin (showed my doctor a picture and he said it was fine)

In October I got 3 BACK TO BACK 😭 He said it was most likely my hormones & to try to not stress out as it can be caused by that! I usually get 1 a YEAR so you could imagine how frustrated I was basically the whole month of October🎃!!

Abreva never works for me! Its too creamy and I need something that dries it up and kills it fast & that'd why I use Zilactin ... You'll literally feel it working, trust me 👍

You should ask right away and yes they will give you something if you get outbreaks on the regular... my doctor didn't give me anything because I don't have outbreaks but I carry the virus she just told me to keep a look out and as it gets closer to my due date if I have one to let her know so she can start me on medicine asap since you really don't know how long one will last or how often it will come back

OTC-wise, abreva is the worst, but there's something called Campho-phinique and it's worked wonders for me. I had two back-to-back but they only lasted a couple days with that stuff.
