Kid beauty pageants??

I'm just curious as to what are your opinions on beauty pageants for kids. My fiancé and I disagree on them. I told him that when we have a girl I want to put her beauty pageants, but I won't force her. He thinks it's a bad idea. He says it exposes kids and he doesn't like them. What are your opinions about them? Would you put your kids in pageants?

I disagree on pageants. It's showing kids at such an innocent young age that looks matter and people will only like you if you're pretty. That you can only win I you're pretty. If a girl wins and one loses, how win the one that lost feel?

Absolutely not. Those types of things sexualize children from a young age and train them that their self worth is tied to how other people view them in physical and superficial ways.

I will teach my child that their self worth should be based on what God thinks of them and they should be focused on being a good person on the inside, not just a pretty one on the outside.

I think it could be a good experience. I don't care for the mom's that make it a career. And I defiantly don't like the full glitz where you put on fake nails and eyelashes on a four year old. But if my daughter liked it I would encourage her the same way I would encourage her if she wanted to body build. And let's face it they will never know what it is until you show them. So yeah put them in pageants, dance, art, math, activities. See which they choose it's up to us to show them what's out there. 😄

I think it reinforces low self esteem. Like you're only pretty if other people think so, or with makeup and costumes. Beyond that, I'm appalled at how sexualized these little girls are, it's sick.

I'd be disgusted if my high school aged daughter went out and got a spray tan or wore heels and a tiny skirt to school, much less a 6 year old in a pageant. 😝😩😣😲

If they asked to be in one I would let them try it. I'm not gonna force them to do it I don't like the idea of parents forcing their kids to do it. But if it's something they really wanna try I will let then

I like when parents on these pageant shows say they won't force their kid but then the kid is crying saying they don't want to do it but parents yell at them until they get up there. Also I think if you start a 2 year old in something it's not really their choice. If they were older and had an interest ok. But it would be natural only, elementary age kids shouldn't need makeup to feel pretty.

I don't want/need some stranger judging my daughter on beauty. How do you even explain that to kids if they loose? "Honey you just weren't as pretty as that other little girl, we can try more makeup, tighter, and shorter clothes next time." No thank you, it's disgusting the things some parents go through to make their freaking 2 year old "beautiful".

If my girl wants to, then if we have the extra money she can do it. But I will never put her in one that only making the girl look like something she isnt wins. National American Miss is probably the only one I've let her do

I was a pageant kid.  I attribute my great public speaking and confidence in front of a room full of people to being a pageant child.  I loved!

If I had children I would so much rather see my girls playing sports than simply putting dresses and make-up on and standing on stage. There are so many more useful things we could do with our time than putting exorbitant amounts of makeup on five year olds.
