paps?

What age should you get a pap? I was told I don't need one from the nurse practitioner till I'm 23. I'm 19, I'm sexually active, & ive had a miscarriage. Also would you suggest a male or female? I've heard some god awful horrible stories today online and at work about their awful obgyn's. Idk, any help, advice, or encouragement will help!

Definitely go since you are sexually active. I have had both male and female doctors, and I've actually ended up staying with a male doctor. He is surprisingly more gentle than the female doctor I was seeing before. He listens well, too. Ask around, and see how others in your area feel about their doctor. That's the best way to find a good doctor! Also, if you're not planning to be pregnant anytime soon, I've found that nurse practitioners usually give you a bit more time, they give more information, it's easier to get appointments with them. Nurse practitioners give really good, thorough care it seems. OBGYNs seem to always be running late (you know, they're our delivering babies and performing surgeries!) but if you think you may get pregnant in the next couple of years, it may be good to establish a good relationship with an OBGYN.

Here's the advice in Australia, where I am: 
All women aged between 18 and 70 years who have ever been sexually active should have a Pap test every two years, or one to two years after first sexual activity, whichever is later. This includes women who have had the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, as the vaccine does not protect against all cancer-causing HPV types or those to which you may already have been exposed prior to vaccination.Lesbians, women who are in a long-term relationship and women who are no longer sexually active should all have regular Pap tests.

10 years ago atleast, it was recommended to have one when you started becoming sexually active. My first pap was at 14, I also got put on birth control. I had one every year after that intil I was 17. When I was 17 the nurse asked me why I had had so many. It's now recommended at 21 in Canada. I feel at 19, sexually acrive and having a m/c you should have a pap. And I personally feel more at ease with a woman dr.

21 is the recommended age in the US. I'm a nursing student and worked at an OB clinic for 3 years and that's the guideline we followed.

My OBGYN told me that I didn't have to get it til 21 I'm 22 now and still haven't gotten one because of
Scheduling. Ive had female and male gynecologist and I have no real preference. One thing I noticed is that the guy wasn't as gentle as the girls. If you've been sexual active and had a miscarriage I would see if you can get it done now.

When i was younger i was told when you start your period you should get one or when you become sexually active (which ever is first). Now i guess drs say 21. It honestly isnt a bad idea to get one especially if your sexually active. I prefer male gyno over female just because the males seem to be more gentle with me and have done a better job than the females ive had. Its more about how good they are at their job rather than their gender. You may have to do trial and error with some until you find one you like. Thats how i found mine

I got my first when I wanted to get on birth control. I was 16. And I've had good experiences with both male and female OBGYNs. Might be a little weird, but I always feel like my female doc. is judging my vagina. 😂 And my male doc. just gets in and out.

I've heard it's 21 or whenever you first become sexually active. I've also heard you should get a pap smear once every 3 years if you have a normal pap smear result. I only see women doctors based on my own personal past.

Idk, I just felt like they weren't really nice to me at the clinic, my mom had ovarian cancer, she found out when she was pregnant with me. So idk if I'm higher risk for ovarian cancer, BUT I just want to get checked out to make sure. Idk.
