Finally had my rainbow baby

Christine
I scheduled an induction for yesterday, January 2nd 2017, at 39 weeks pregnant. I had a sweep at 38 weeks which didn't do much. I got hooked up to the pitocin around 9am. I started at 2cm & 50% effaced. My contractions were strong but I was progressing slowly so at some point in the early afternoon I got some iv pain meds which helped me fall asleep for a while. I woke up and my contractions were getting stronger but I was still progressing slowly. Around 4-5pm I was only around 4cm 80% effaced, so I got another round of iv meds. I fell asleep again for a bit bit then the contractions got insanely intense. I ended up going into back labor. Around 7pm I decided to get an epidural. They administered it and I was mostly numb by 8pm. They checked me and I at 5cm. I started feeling a lot of pressure about 5 minutes later so they checked again and I was at 6cm. Then around 8:30pm I was checked again and was at 8cm. I started feeling a lot of pressure and pain. My epidural started wearing off super fast. The anesthesiologist came back in to give me more meds, but I was feeling like I needed to push. The nurse checked and I was fully dilated and ready to go. I felt everything. I've given birth before with and without an epidural but I didn't expect it to fail, so I wasn't prepared for the pain. Overall, I only pushed for maybe 5 minutes. She was born at 9:04 pm, no tearing and she is perfectly healthy. I can't believe how fast I went from 5cm to fully dilated. It happened within about 30 minutes! From start to finish labor lasted about 12 hours with only a few minutes of pushing. We are so in love with our rainbow baby, Loxley Violet.
