Self tanner question??

I want to try and find a nice a nice self tanner for prom, and was wondering how many of you use them and know which ones are the best for pale skin? Also, I have had a bad episode of back acne and am left with scars, so would a fake tan cover or even out the look of them? And will it rub off onto my dress? I've never had a fake tan before so I need as much advice as I can get! Lol
