Is anyone on here having an elective csection?

Just wondering if anyone is having an elective csection or has had one in the past?

The hospital I work for keeps mom awake for c-sections.  If you're concerned about not being present (alert/awake) for birth, talk about your anesthesia options.  We do spinal nerve blocks/epidurals - so mom is wide awake and baby goes on moms chest as soon as the resuscitation team has cleared baby's airway and baby is stable.  Mom gets rolled back to LD unit in hospital bed with baby still on chest.

I feel as so many moms make it about them. I've heard countless people say I don't want to ruin my vagina, or I don't want to pee myself when I sneeze. Like just stop for a minute and think u chose to have a kid, u chose to have your body change in ways u never thought possible to carry and have this baby.. and your more worried about your vagina stretching during a vaginal birth. Women have gave birth that way what use to be the only way for 1000s yrs! If your not willing to make one more tiny change that u don't hardly even notice why even have kids. I Never had a csection and I'm more afraid cut open having staples, then my vagina having a couple stitches. My first born was a vaginal birth, let me tell u sex is better than ever now best I ever had! My lips are what I call a little plushier, my husband loves it he says it makes me a real woman! My stitches if they never told me I wouldn't of known. I was able to get up 30mins after having her.. I let my body and baby do what it wanted, my baby wanted to come out that way and I just let my body do what it was made to do. I can understand not all babies and bodies can do it no matter how hard they try, and I think that's the only time u should have a csection

My doctor, husband, and I did the pros and cons of each. Since I do not want any other children and will be getting a tubal ligation, we decided a c-section would be best. I wanted to VBAC, but I would have to recover from a vaginal delivery (if able) and then recover from the tubal ligation a few weeks later. I'd rather just get it all done at once. My doctor is really great and informative and I feel we have made the best choice.

I had an emergency c-section with my daughter and a year and half ago moved to a small town. They aren't equipped at the hospital for VBAC, so my choices were repeat c-section or get a midwife and try a VBAC at home which I just couldn't get comfortable with.

Im a nurse and train doctors on computer charting.  I have gotten the luxury of hanging out with a few OB's for lengthy periods of time lately and got to pick their brains.  I also have had the pleasure of seeing/hearing numerous cases of birth trauma to mom's vaginal area and babies heads/shoulders.

I asked a couple of the OB's how they feel about elective csections and all three said 100% cool with it.  If you go in for the procedure before labor starts, the risk to mom and baby are equivalent to an uncomplicated vaginal delivery.  A few things to consider tho...

CONS
Baby needs a little more aggressive resuscitation (suctioning, stimulating etc) because their airway doesn't get squeezed in the birth canal.

Risk to mom that surgeon accidently nicks bladder or bowel (both can be repaired, but added complication no one wants).  Increased risk of developing adhesions or bowel obstructions later in life.

Increased length of recovery and longer hospital stay mom.

PROS

Mom's vagina remains intact - no tearing, no stitches!

Decreased risk of long term damage to pelvic organs (lower risk of long term incontinence and organ prolapse)

Decreased risk of birth trauma to baby (no shoulder dislocations, forcep injuries etc)

C-sections AFTER labor has started are exponentially higher risk than elective cesarean before labor onset, and recovery is often a lot harder. Choosing to have an elective doesn't mean you won't go into labor before your scheduled section though either. So if your doc has told you you can go either way, it might be good to mentally prepare yourself for the chance of a normal vaginal delivery!

I'm leaning towards elective cesarean - but am waiting for baby to drop and MD exam before making final decision.

I had a emergency c-section with my first which was completely awful.. I didn't get a choice this time and will be having another.. I didn't qualify for a VBAC with the issues I had with my first.. If I could chose I would definitely not be having a c-section this time. Recovery was horrible for me and I was sedated for my c-section and didn't get to see my baby until 3 hours after I had her. Family were allowed to see and take pictures of her before I did.

Where I live  (Sweden ) It's quite hard to get an elective c-section.  There are laws that protect you will and your feelings as a patient but you'll have to see a special midwife about your fears and a ob-doctor before they decide.  Most of the time it feels as if they will try their best to talk you out of it because vaginal birth is almost always the best choice for both mother and baby.  I had an emergency c-section with my first because he was stuck and I had been in labour for days and had no power to push him out.  He was also 5kilos+ so big baby!!  This time they say that IF baby is growing big this time as well  (I'm having extra ultrasounds to check later on) they will let me go for c-section but if baby appears to be normal in size,  they recommend a vaginal birth.  I had no problems and recovered well my last time so c-section would be my first choice but we'll see...
