tdap shot?

My sister weNT with me to my appointment today and the doctor had me get the tdap shot. I told my sister she should get it too and everyone that comes in contact with baby should get it. She's very hippy and refuses to get the vaccine. She says that she won't come near baby is she feels sick but I would feel better if she got it. Anyone dealing with similar situation? She refuses to get the flu shot or any other vaccine saying that there's tons of people without vaccines that are totally fine. She's very granola and that's fine but I don't want to put my baby at risk

Tdap is very important if she plans on being around the baby. The reason people need to get it for around newborns is because of whooping cough. Adults can have it and not even know, but it can very easily be deadly for baby! Anyone in my family who hasn't had one in the last two years I'm asking to get one.

Im pregnant and i refused the shot. I refuse all shots untill after pregnancy. Just cautious. Dont want to have a bad reaction while being pregnant.

If you do some more research, the vaccine actually results in asymptomatic carriers. Your sister would not be and would actually be less of a risk to your baby because your sister will show symptoms and know to stay away. I would never expect anyone to inject themselves with toxic ingredients on my behalf. Tdap has never been proven safe during pregnancy. If you read the actual vaccine insert (not the whitewashed handouts doctors give you) you will see safety in pregnancy is not stated and there is a registry for pregnant women who receive the vaccine because those pregnant women are being used as the research. It was never recommended during pregnancy until 2011, the last time I delivered was 2010 and never recieved a vaccine during pregnancy and never would. If you also consider the fact that there are approximately 320 million people in the U.S. and approximately 277 pertussis deaths,  the odds are something like .000085% I don't see a reason to vaccinate against that small of odds.

My mom refused with my first and we had her watching my daughter full time from 3mo to 6mo. It drove me crazy, but I didn't feel like I had a choice. When we recently hired a nanny it was one of our job requirements. My OB's advice was that nobody with a fever or cough be allowed near the baby for the first month and nobody coughing that wasn't current with their TDAP be around for a year.

I got mine. Your shot will protect your baby after they are born don't worry. Still be careful but your immune system will protect your baby till they are vaccinated as well

I got the tdap shot around 25 weeks. I got very sick afterwards and wouldn't stop having seizures and my arm was bruised for about a month. If I had a choice I wouldn't get it either, and I wouldn't make anybody I care about get it. Vaccines aren't as good as everyone thinks they are. The only reason I got it was because my doctor just came out with a needle and told me it was the safe thing to do. Be carful with all vaccines (including the flu shot) do research on it before you do it, please.
