Birth control and antidepressants?

I have been diagnosed with mild depression. I currently do not take meds for this but my doctor offered. I feel like I may be getting to the point where it could help. I'm wondering if there is any interaction between these meds and birth control? Does anyone have experience taking both? Has it ever made your depression worse? I don't like taking meds but it has been a long few years. I have my ups and downs. Literally cry for no reason sometimes. I have never been suicidal, I have always been nervous about taking antidepressants for fear I may become suicidal.
