buying a house. scary. help.

I have never went through the house hunting/buying process before. When me and my husband were dating he already has a house and I moved my stuff in. But now we are ready for kids and we want to get a bigger place. I started looking at houses online and immediately got terrified. The prices scare me. The getting your hopes up and then someone else buys it thing is getting old. Trying to find a house close to my family. The building your credit. Everything is so overwhelming. What do I do to calm myself down? Thanks lady's
