Do you agree?

Question

I know I've felt unsafe walking to my apartment at night. And I also know that every time I watch an action movie with a female protagonist I'm afraid the antagonists will rape her. I'm not saying men are bad. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm saying that the way we treat rape is perpetuating a stereotype about men that they don't know how to control themselves, and it's simply not true. What are your thoughts?

No...and maybe it's just the area I live in, but I don't feel terrified walking down the sidewalk.
I think it's a bit unhealthy to be that terrified to exist in everyday society

1. Guys need to learn how to be gentleman 
2. Girls we need to stop waisting our time on guys who aren't gentleman 
3. Girls we need to learn how to defend our selves, advocate for ourselves, and quit allowing ourselves to be victimized based on our gender.
4. If you truly are a victim get help and get justice Don't keep quiet that puts others at risk and let's the person get away with what they did. 
5. I don't believe rape is ever justified by clothing but come on ladies lets show more class less ass.
6. Assuming all guys are bad is bs. Not all guys are bad just like not all women are bad. It's just that there are bad people of both genders out there which makes it even more important to know how to protect your self. 
7. Don't put yourself in high risk situations i.e. Don't go through dangerous parts of town alone. If you are going to a more dangerous part of town bring intimidating back up weather it be brothers, guy friends, boyfriend, girl friends, big Birtha from the biker bar down the street. Just don't go alone. If you can't find someone to go with you then go some other time or get one of those apps that alerts authorities if like your thumb leaves the screen or something like that. 
8. Be aware of your surroundings. 
9. Don't be stupid 
10. If you want to change something don't wait for others to do it for you do it yourself. If you want rapeculture to change then do it. You go out there and do what you can to make a difference. What you do will spread. Be the first domino to make a difference.

I wanna say it's not true, I live in a safe area. But I always have an overwhelming fear walking alone at night. It's sad I have to have my keys ready to my apartment or my car just in case I have to make a run for it.

I don't have a fear of getting raped. I'd only imagine those who have been through it or almost have, would have that fear while walking down the street. I don't have any fears if I'm just walking down the street during the day. I don't live in a TERRIBLE area. But at night if I'm walking alone I just have a fear of something bad happening in general. Nothing specific. Everyone needs to invest in one of these bad boys. They've got them on amazon for super cheap and it's good to have around if you've got a fear of walking alone. I take it with me if I'm walking somewhere sketchy. It's loud and will scare the shit out of someone just from the noise it makes

I personally don't think it's realistic to be terrified of rape as your walking down the street at night.

What are the odds of someone grabbing you and pulling you off into an alleyway randomly? Typically, the rape cases I've seen are at parties, social events, dates gone bad, etc.

I've been catcalled quiteeeee a bit but I've never been like, "Oh god he catcalled me, I'm going to be raped."

Not frightened of being raped. Frightened of being beat up by a gang of kids, yes. It happened to one of my friends. There are some vicious kids in this neighborhood. Being robbed would be a close second. Being a woman makes me an easier mark to some, I guess, but I feel like that has more to do with my size than my sex. And pretty much every decent person in the world thinks rape is a horrible crime, men are included in that. I know there are sex offenders out there, but I don't think too much about it. I've travelled extensively by myself, and I've done it by not letting those worries keep me from moving about in the world.

I live in a really safe area, but I'm always paranoid that someone is out to get me. Walking during the day I'm normally okay, but once the sun is down, I won't go out alone.

If I'm meant to be home alone at night, I'll ask my boyfriend to stay and if he can't, I'll stay with my grandma. It's sad, I'm almost 18.

I've never been frightened of being raped. It doesn't really happen that much in the places where I've lived, even if it did it's still not something that I find frightening enough to be worried about but I am worried about my children being abducted or abused somehow which is probably less likely to happen so there you have it. These things are just very subjective.
