take gyn's advice OR no time to waste?

Hi girls. I went to a new gyn yesterday and Im bummed out. I told them my hubby and I have been TTC since June 2015 with not a single positive hpt. I told him after 12 months TTC my other gyn found a polyp and removed it their surgery and gave us another 6 months to TTC. That was 6 months ago and again nothing. I told him about a positive opk I took in December and he said this meant I was definitely ovulating, and to keep trying for another 6 months before we go to something 'more aggressive'. That will make 24 months TTC without any intervention. I'm 33.
This is now month 18 of TTC - my gut feeling is that we should have tried something more aggressive after my surgery 6 months ago. The idea of TTC for another 6 months with nothing to show for it, while simultaneously not knowing why just makes me cry. Would it be crazy of me to go back and ask that we start testing for things like blocked tubes, imbalanced hormones _now_?

Ask another gyn or insist on testing. I wish I had. My doctor gave me the old, "Relax, it'll happen " even though I told him I was having weird symptoms, pain, and very heavy cycles. Turns out I have endometriosis and it's pretty aggressive, do much so that our chance of conceiving is pretty much nil. I don't say this to elicit pity (I'm dealing with it OK) or to scare you, but please - listen to your body, and advocate for yourself.

Meant to add - we had been TTC for 12 months, and then it took us 4-5 months to be seen by the fertility specialist

Thank you all! This has been so reassuring! I am calling my gyn tomorrow to request testing for myself and my husband.

Please see a different Doctor. A positive OPK DOES NOT mean you are ovulating. I'm 34 and have been TTC for 5 months. My OPKs indicated that I'm ovulating but my doctor wanted to start testing. Just had an ultrasound last Thursday and it turns out I'm not ovulating. My follicles are too small to release an egg. I go for blood work on day 3 of my next cycle to find out what's going on. You could still be producing the LH needed for ovulation but not be releasing an egg.

Unless your doctor has done blood work on you or you have had the ultrasound, he cannot confirm that. I have learned so much from my obgyn and from the hours of research I've done. Also, he put in an order for my husband to have a semen analysis which came back normal.

Ikr?! I knew I had seen women here discuss that before, but he was pretty affirmative. And it wasn't oh so I guess you're ovulating he said I was _definitely_ ovulating. I was so confused.

My husband and I made an appointment with a specialist when it had only been 6 months of ttc. We weren't going to wait a whole 12 months. I believe you have he right to discuss your options with your doctor or find a new one who is willing to listen.

Us too! We didn't want to wait if there was something we could do now to get pregnant! And I'm going in for a polyp removal next week. And then I'm asking for the most aggressive treatment. My mother in law was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer and we don't have any time to waste.

No, not crazy at all to ask. Once I started asking specifically for things (clomid, metformin, hormone testing, blocked tubes) I finally felt like something was moving forward. Just ask and if Dr says no, find another Dr who will. Baby Dust!

My gyno insisted we start testing as soon as I hit my 12 month mark. I'm the one finding excuses and feet dragging.

I think I'd get another opinion if this were my situation.

I would definitely get another doctor. My Doc said it's normally a year of trying or three miscarriages. She got me a referral to the infertility Doctor after two. Clomid 100mg worked for us! A regular obgyn can prescribe it (at least mine can at Kaiser, that's how my sister got clomid). Good luck!

Hi Wello. Did you have any testing done before you were prescribed the clomid? Idk to ask for a test or to just straight up ask for clomid 😊

Did your previous on who knows your history and did your procedure say to wait longer?  Does the New on have your records from previous?  Having those can help them see you have waited a long time and you can be assertive in telling them what you want. Good luck!

Thank Evie. I didn't bring my records with me I just signed the hipaa form for them to request my older records.

No time to waste!!! See another dr!!!And the dr should know that a positive OPK doesn't guarantee you actually ovulated!!!!!!!! Gah!!! Some doctors make me so mad 😡
