abnormal cells and now colposcopy!?😳

Question

I have been getting Pap smears for a year now ever since my first I had abnormal cells and the second time testing after 6 months again abnormal so my doc wants me to get a colposcopy done at the hospital and I'm freaking out tgat I may have cancer.... has anyone been in this position before ? I'm really stressing that I cannot sleep and my colposcopy will be scheduled in around 3 months from now

Don't worry. I had to get a colposcopy, that turned out to be highly abnormal so then I had to get a procedure called a LEEP where they electrically removed a thin surface layer of my cervix (sounds horrifying but I was under anesthesia and the recovery was surprisingly not bad at all) and it turned out that I had very early stage cervical cancer. I then had to get the surface/cancerous cells frozen off (again...under anesthesia, not bad at all) and go for frequent Pap smears and I've been in the clear ever since. Honestly I'm in the minority group with this, most of the time with colposcopies and stuff it doesn't end up being cancer. I have a TON of friends who have had abnormal Pap smears and colposcopies. Trust me, I know it sounds so scary and you feel alone but you're not alone at all. You are doing the best possible thing by following up to your Pap smear so you can get some answers and see what's going on. Try not to stress over it too much (easier said than done, I know) and just remember that abnormal Pap smears are extremely common and most of the time they just end up being a watch closely type of thing where you might have to go get Pap smears a little more frequently. I had mine done when my son was 6 weeks old..like I literally nursed him while they did the procedure, I didn't think it hurt, just weird pressure, thank God when they were doing it they said that it didn't look like I had a lot so it's prolly nothing, and results were it was nothing...don't know why it happend, wishing you the best! Going on three years of abnormal cells. Went in every six months. And they even the the procedure that they freeze the outer layers of your cervix to try to remove the layers. But it didn't do anything, and still have abnormal cells but my dr said as long as they aren't changing then I don't have really anything to worry about.
