anybody recently diagnosed with diabetes? not the gi one, but type 2 specifically

I would love advice on what you did to manage it and what tests you took to determine it

My mom has been diabetic type II for years. She does not eat after 6pm (probably was the hardest thing for her to do). I know she drinks hot tea at night. She is very careful about carbs. She doesn't worry about fat much...its all sugar and carbs. She often uses stevia and monk fruit in place of sugar. She will still bake with real sugar but also use a sugar substitute and if she eats any of it, it's not much. She's careful about eating fruit...1/2 a banana at most (for example). She can't juice but can partake in smoothies. Wine actually lowers her glucose level so it's the one guilty pleasure she can enjoy. You can still totally live life and be a type two diabetic. I know it stinks (I feel for my mom but she's used to it by now..). Good news is that there are PLENTY of diabetic friendly cookbooks, blogs, etc out there. I should mention that she is also careful about her weight and exercises regularly. Initially, she dropped 50+ lbs but unfortunately, her diagnosis didn't reverse itself, like it does for many, when weight is lost. Best wishes to you!

I'm type 2; have been for years.

Everything in moderation. Of course less sugar, carbs, starch as they spike your sugar. Protein will be a best friend.

Drinking more water (to cut out sugary drinks) and exercise help.

And eating 5-6 small meals a day is ideal as it helps to keep your sugar level and to not spike.
