If anyone has ever or is on the depo shot what were some of the side affects?

Extremely irritable, angry, and with the type of mental illness I have, I can't be on it... I found that out the hard way. :( I destroyed my relationship with my sister in law over it and tried to kill myself. It was awful. I only had one shot and it really messed me up for several months.

I gained weight, lost my sex drive, became irritable and unpleasant to be around, spotted constantly, and ended up with a calcium deficiency...  So yeah, not my first choice!

Gained weight and lost sex drive entirely. I'm considering switching to the implant and if that doesn't work then I'll have to do natural birth control practices because of my health I'm limited to BC options. And in allergic to condoms and spermicide!

I was on the depo for four years, never had any symptoms besides irritability. But.. I got pregnant on the depo too. If you use it longer than two years it's less effective bc your body gets used to the hormones it produces. My health department didn't tell me that and a month after I got my shot I got pregnant. I never had periods or spotting and just randomly started spotting and threw up once took a pregnancy test and it said negative. Waited another month and sure enough it was positive! I have the Mirena now and so far so good besides the day of insertion.

A little weight gain but honestly that just because of my metabolism and the way I eat. When I was on it previously and was going to the gym and eating healthy there was no gain and I lost like 40 pounds. Other than that there has been no negatives that I could relate to the depo.
