breastfeeding?

I'm hoping to breast feed my little one when it arrives, has any one got any advice or tips that may help? Also thing that's are a huge must to add to the shopping list, good creams Ect? What should I expect and how to deal with certain things, all advice and tips welcome 🙂

When first starting out it was stressful and a little overwhelming for me and my LO. My advice would be to just close your hospital/delivery room door and just try it out the two of you, I mean dad and anyone you want in there too. But really just be patient and you'll both figure it out. Read, read, read...holding positions, nipple placement, watching babies jaw and cheeks, etc. That will really help you. The nurses I had were really mean and grabby and kinda made me feel like I couldn't do it. And! (A really big and) you don't have to learn it in a day! In fact it took me and my 1st 3 months to figure it out. The second on was easier cause I felt like I knew what I was doing ha! It was honestly the best experience of my life! Can't wait to BF again with my third!

All in all, I want to encourage each mother to do what's best from them and their baby. Breastfeeding...formula....it's nurishing your baby and food is food 😊 be patient and kind to yourself!

Soothing gel pads are a must for me! You put them in the freezer. Then after breast feeding you stick them to your nipples and the cold helps so much. My nipples are always so painful during breastfeeding. These help big time.

Everyone's experience is different. I never had chapped or painful breasts with my daughter. If the latch is good then it shouldn't be painful. I did put oil on my nipples the month before and one month into breastfeeding because I was afraid of cracking nipples. Drink lots of water, keep your calories up, and pump between feedings in the hospital (gets your milk supply to come in). I was able to breastfeed my daughter the full year and went back to work at 10wks. I also don't have a job with scheduled breaks. It can be done, but breastfeeding can feel like a full time job.

Lanolin did NOT work for me.. Boob-ease was the BEST. It's kind of expensive, around $12 for a small jar, but it lasted until the "ouch nipple" phase ended. I bought a second jar just barely used it. Good luck!!!!! It's a little tough in the beginning, but the more you put baby to breast, the faster your milk comes in. Still going strong at 8.5mo, although it's been a HUGE commitment (more so than I ever imagined), very emotional and a rollercoaster. It got very difficult to maintain supply when I went back to work, even though I only work 16-20 hrs a week. I plan on continuing through this pregnancy and hopefully tandem nursing when this baby is born.

I started putting the Lanolin cream every night about a month before I was due with my 1st. It's helped so much I was sore but my nipples didn't chap. My 2nd child I didn't do that and man or man did they hurt!!! 
Ask your hospital for a lactation specialist they are Miracle workers! 
I also got nipple guards which help with latching and reduces soreness. 
Be patient!! I know that My milk takes 5 days to come in so it's exhausting and hard for me and the baby but worth it.

Lanolin cream is a definite must!  Your nipples will chap & it'll be really painful to breastfeed without the cream.

Lanolin. It will be painful the first week because your nipples will be so chapped but after that they should feel normal if ur still in pain then your baby is unlatching incorrectly. Look to see if your hospital has a lactation consultant. The one I delivered at had one, with one free year of unlimited consultations so it was nice to be able to call or come in for help if I felt like the baby wasn't latching on right or with questions I had. Try to be patient and be aware that your baby will be feeding constantly for the first 3-4 days that's when usually your milk comes in before it just colostrum so the baby is trying to feed often to make your milk come in. I would say to read on it like maybe internet if you don't want to look for a book. And look for a video on how to latch the baby so you kind of now of how to grab your boob to put into the baby mouth. Good luck!!
