First day of your period?

I'm just curious since I've been tracking.. Would you count the first day of your period the first day you bleed or when you really have your period? For example, I spot like brown/bright red blood a day before I get my period then the next day is my actual period. Would I count the spotting as my first day? Sorry if this makes no sense! Thanks!!

My obgyn told me to count the first day i see any bright red blood as the first day or my period

Spotting is logged as spotting. Day 1 is the first day of actual flow.

First day is medium to heavy flow. Spotting isn't your period according to the research I've done
