Thyroid level @ 2.9 while pregnant- okay?

Question

I've been on Synthroid for about 6 weeks due to thyroid level at 4.0. My provider would like to see them at 2.0. I was just confirmed pregnant and am 4 weeks. My thyroid was retested and is at 2.9 now. Does this level cause an increase in miscarriage? Has anyone else had thyroid issues and a healthy pregnancy?

I had my thyroid removed last August. Got TSH levels to 0.49 in August and we're given the go ahead to start trying. I ovulated 12/7 had levels checked 12/12 came back at 7.9! She adjusted my dose and I also started making sure to not take prenatal 4 hours before OR after taking synthroid. She wanted me to recheck in two weeks but I found out I was pregnant on 12/16 so she had me recheck earlier on 12/20 and upped my dose a little more again. With watching when I took my synthroid and when I took prenatal along with the dose increase my levels came down to 3.9, still higher then the 2.5 or under they want it but much better.

I'll be 8 weeks on Wednesday and everything is going fine so far. I have my first OBGYN appointments this week including a ultrasound. Also get my levels redrawn this week.

Sorry so long I just don't know a lot of other people pregnant with this issue so I like to tell everything incase it is helpful :) I know 2.9 is higher than the 2.5 but I'm sure your fine especially if they're monitoring it. The way I look at it no one monitored my thyroid levels when I was pregnant with my first daughter so who knows my levels might have been on the higher end of normal (0.27-4.2) then and no one known and my daughter is just fine and I had a normal pregnancy with her.

Check out http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3472679/ these are the Guidelines of the American Thyroid Association for the Diagnosis and Management of Thyroid Disease During Pregnancy and Postpartum. Optimal TSH levels for 1st trimester  is 0.1-2.5. The general recommendation is adding two pill/week once pregnancy is confirmed. You will want to test throughout pregnancy to make sure your levels remain at a safe level. 
My TSH was 2.89 at 4 weeks. I increased per the recommendations and will test again in 4 weeks. Best of luck to you!

My jumped to 7.2. I could tell I was way off. I increased my dose and have to go get retested but i feel a lot better. 13+5

I never got first trimester blood work, but at 13 weeks my TSH was at 4.6, and I didn't have any issues in the first trimester.  Obviously I know that I'm lucky and hypothyroidism can cause a miscarriage, but my baby and I are fine!  I've been taking my new medicine for a week and a half now and feel a lot better.  Point being, I'm sure you and your baby will be fine, especially since your doc already knows you have this issue. 🙂

I've been on Synthroid for years, my most recent TSH was 1.6 - prior to that was 2.1 and although that was normal my dr wanted me to be on the 'low' end of normal.  I know that hyperthyroidism can cause major issues in getting pregnant, but I'm less knowledgeable about what effects it has on pregnancy itself.  Whatever it is though, best to keep it in check.  Best of luck to you!
