Protection on pill?

Question: I have taken my combination birth control pills consistently for about 3 months, and I just had my period this week during my placebo pills. My question is, am I protected for the next seven days after my period while I'm starting a new pack? Or do I always have to wait seven days during the first week of a new pack? Thank u for reading.
