Induction when baby isn't engaged?

I am still very pregnant at 40+5 😢

So I am booked into be induced on Thursday night. But after a crazy frantic dance bub did the other night he has gone from 2/5 engaged back to 4/5 😭

My cervix is still very soft but closed and "unfavourable" (even after walking atleast 3ks up and down hill everyday, sex twice a day, living on my exersise ball, EPO and hand expression) my dr said I'll definitely have the gel.

Does any one know the odds of this working or had any experience? I don't want to labour for 20+ hours stress out baby and still need a c-section. I dont see how this will work!

I don't have experience with induction but I've been reading about it. I think giving the gel when the cervix is not ready rather than just starting with pitocin, seems to increase the success (pitocin seems to work well in augmenting labor but can be too intense to jumps start it). The gel helps ripen your cervix, it takes time because it needs a couple of hours to work and some hospitals might even let you go home or go for a walk. Breaking your water after you dilate can also help jump start contractions. Once you are "in labor", pitocin should help. Now if after all this, if it doesn't work out, c-section would be indicated.

Some might say why go through that if I might need a csection anyway? And that's a valid point. You can discuss it with your doctors but if I was in your shoes, I'd want to give it a shot but I'd be open to a csection at any sign of distress.

I would be discussing this strongly with my OB. This is one of my biggest concerns about labor, in general. If the need to be induced comes about and my body has made no natural progression I would hate to have to labor for hours and be exhausted and have Baby in distress to then end up in a c-section. Ask your OB the c-section rates after an induction. Ask how long they'll let you labor without significant dilation progress, etc. Discuss your expectations of pain management drugs. I'd be wary too just because there are so many variables with intervention.

Everyone is different.
An unfavourable cervix may respond quite well while others may not. 
Take it as it comes and go from there :)
The good thing about inductions is there are several different options, if one way doesn't work there are others they can try.

I always think why go through all that if it's most likely going to be a csection. I'm contemplating it all now and I'm only29 weeks.
