Overweight on birth control?

I've been heavier for the better portion of my life. A few months ago I started taking birth control pills again. Although this is not my first time on the pill (used it for about two years previously) I've gained a fair amount of weight since then and am currently the heaviest I've ever been. Has anyone come across any issues with birth control pills that might be attributed to weight/do you think it may be less effective? My period is weirder and longer now than ever. Also I'd really love to forgo condoms with my boyfriend, but am a little scared to stop using them because I worry the pill may not be as effective
