PLEASE HELP Not ready for marriage

Hello u guys I need some advice on this situation...

My boyfriend and I have been together going on 3years and just had our son he's giving me 2rings 1the first year of our relationship and another last year saying they are promise rings ok so to the point we always talk about marriage and one time he said to me that we would go head and get married before our son came I never bring it up because I don't want him to feel like I'm pressuring him.. So last week I finally said some about marriage and he says WE NOT READY YET HE WANT US TO BE MORE FINANCIAL STABLE HE WANT US TO HAVE GL WANT FOR NOTHING.. I told him that was a excuse he's never said that before I mean we getting by fine we not rich we always gone have bills so I feel that ita an excuse someone pleasee gve me a lil advice am I wrong or what
