For the expecting mommas. Are any of you considering banking your baby's cord blood?

My sister had a baby boy last March and they decided to bank my nephew's cord blood. I've talked to a couple of cord blood registries and have done some research about it. We're honestly still on the fence about whether we should do it. I understand the possible health benefits of doing it but it is not cheap. 😶😶😶

I asked my doctor about it. He said that it's basically like an insurance policy on your car but instead on your family's health. For example you buy a really expensive car (your, baby, and partners life) and you have the opportunity to put great insurance on the car (cord blood or stem cells) now you may drive the car your whole life and never have an accident and never use the insurance you paid the whole time but say you did have an accident then you might regret not paying per month on the great insurance. So yes it cost money per month to keep the cord blood or stem cells in reserve for future use and let's say you never get cancer or your baby never uses them and you paid all that money well sure it's a chance but say something does go wrong well you purchased that nice insurance policy and now you get to use it. That's a good way to think of it! Hope I helped!

We were going to do it. Parents gifting us lifetime. Then after a lot of research we actually decided to turn them down and out the money into a college fund, instead. Not only are the chances of your baby being able to use his own banked blood incredibly low, but it's only useful when they're a child.  There's not enough blood for an adult. Should your baby ever need to use stem cells, it's likely they will come from a public bank.
