Did you have a long engagement?

If so, how long did you wait? I'd love to hear your story.

My partner and I have been talking about getting engaged this year, but he wants to wait till we have a house. I think we should just have a long engagement, till we buy a house. What are your thoughts? Did you guys wait awhile before your special day?

My cousins been engaged for two years, because they wanted to travel and save for a house deposit before the wedding. I don't think it's a bad thing to have a long engagement, but some of my friends think it's silly to be engaged for over a year.. so I'm not sure what we're going to do.

We were engaged for nearly 5 years, and ended up getting married on our 10 year anniversary.   Do what works for you and your partner, and try to ignore other people's opinions, it's your relationship, not theirs.

DH and I were engaged for over two years before we were married. I am very grateful for all the time I had to plan. It's not silly to wait till you have things in order. Plus if you wait till you buy a house you won't over due it on the wedding. You will know what to expect financial wise when it comes to owning a home and such.

Long or short doesn't really matter u & your SO have to do what's right for u, my hubby & I met in our mid 30's, he already owned a home we'd already both traveled a lot, he has a son (from his previous marriage) but if we wanted more kids we needed to get on it 'cause I wasn't getting any younger & we're both somewhat traditional in that we wanted be married before having children. Some people thought we moved really fast but it worked for us, we got engaged in mid June 2014 & were married in the beginning of Nov. 2014. I'm due w/ our baby girl in 25 days :) You do you & don't let anybody sway you!

We were engage for 17mo before we got married. I personally recommend a longer engagement (at least a year) to do all of your planning, it's an amazing & fun experience, but it also gets very costly & overwhelming. There's absolutely nothing wrong with long engagements! IMO nothing really changed when we finally did get Married. I think it's great you guys are trying to find a house & settle before you make the leap! However, there are a lot of legalities to buying a house that are easier if you ARE married.

Fact of the matter is, you guys should do what you feel is best for you. To hell with what other people think. It's YOUR life 😁

Long engagements are fine. Depending on a situation. I've been with my bf for coming up 9 years. So when that ring goes on my finger it's happening asap lol. I'm not waiting any longer. But we've also have been living in our house for 4 years. 
If a long engagement works for your situation then yes go for it
