episiotomy vs natural tear

I'm due in 3 weeks and I plan on going completely natural. While I know everyone's experience is different I have been trying to prepare myself. I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should tell my doctor not to do an episiotomy at all unless my baby is in distress or not telling her anything and just going with the flow. Does and one care to share stories and thoughts. I would love to hear them!
