Our birth story!
It was January 14th, around 1 am my husband and I decided to make love. I was 36 weeks as far as we know and after I showered and got out, got into bed as normal and tried to sleep. I couldn't, so I sat up in bed watching my husband play GTA when all of a sudden I felt like I had peed, but I didn't get a urge to pee beforehand. So as weird as it was, I shrugged it off and told my husband I thought I had peed myself. He laughed and I went to change. Surely enough I get back, sit down and five seconds later it happens again.
Well this time my husband became alert and gave me some underwear because I had run out of them as I went to go change for the second time. I called the birthing center midwife who instructed me to wear a pad and if it continued on to call again. Well, I hang up and of course it happens three more times! I became super awake at this point because the only explanation I had was that my water had broken.
My husband and I hurry to get to the hospital and they check me out which at this point it was heavy enough to soak through my maternity leggings and it turned out to be my water had indeed broken!
Because I was so far along and my water had broken, I was GBS + and my body was having contractions they said that I'd be having a baby within 24 hours! I looked at my husband who was sleeping because it was 2:20 by the time we were told this and told him so we went through the whole admitting and getting me hooked up to the IV and monitoring. Unfortunately because I was GBS + I needed antibiotics and to make my contractions closer together they used a low dose of pictocin to dilate me further and such. Around 11:30 am my contractions started getting more painful and by 2 pm it was so close together.
Through my labor I had two showers to help deal with the pain, walked around and by the time I was 8-9 cm dilated they asked if I wanted an epidural. I declined because I knew I was too far gone and by the time I got it I'd be pushing. Well they double checked and I was at a 9, which didn't last long because at 3:50 I started feeling like I had to go to the bathroom. I begged the nurses to let me to poop and they declined it saying that it was the baby.
I reached a point where I could not stop my body from pushing and they allowed me to do shallow pushes but they wanted me to slow down so I didn't tear. My body wasn't listening and by the time I had my third push they checked and I was at ten and ready to push harder so they quickly had me put my legs up and into position with the hand bars up. It took until 4:06 pm and then my daughter was born and wrapped up placed on my chest for skin to skin. I cried silently because I was so shocked that she was here finally.
I had to be stitched up, over 32 stitches and 13 hours of labor. I looked at my husband who looked like he had to cry and told me what a good job I did while we looked at our princess. He then went into the bathroom and cried while I was stitched up and came out sitting with us. He held me and I couldn't stop saying "look at her babe!" And crying.
The nurses were super with her and taught me how to breast feed, taught us how to change a diaper and we only stayed in for 2 days. She scored 9/10 on the Asgar score test and she was born 7 lbs 2.7 oz, 19 inches long. 😍
