I'm hating breastfed

Anybody else have latching issues? I can't nurse without the nipple shields and my nipples hurt sooo bad especially when he first latches on. He is only 2.5 weeks old so does it get better or should I find a lactation specialist? Anybody have success weaning baby off the nipple shields?
