When to have a baby shower?

I'm only 18 weeks along however my family lives in Eastern Europe and the U.K. So we're trying to give them a heads up for the baby shower so if they want to come they can find good deals on flights etc... plus plan a vacation if they decide to explore the states. Or figure out if they would rather wait till baby gets here. So we originally thought when I hit 36 weeks would be a good time for a baby shower but a friend of mine said I should do it earlier just in case baby gets here early and also so that I can enjoy it rather than be super pregnant and miserable. When did you have your baby shower or when do you plan to have your baby shower?

I've had mine a month before baby was due so around 36/37 weeks

Had mine today at 35 weeks and it was enjoyable. I am EXHAUSED but it was worth it and now I can get anything else I need and take these last weeks to prepare!

Had my first at 30 weeks, & I'll probably do this around the same time. 30-32 weeks.

I think any time in the third trimester is fine, though I would personally do it before 36 weeks. I'm having mine this weekend at 29 weeks for a couple of reasons, one being that it's perfect summer time here in Australia so we can do the outdoor thing we wanted without fear of the weather being bad, and the other reason being that we are maybe 1/2 to 3/4 finished with the nursery and many of the gifts will either get us all the way to finished or very close. I wouldn't want to do it at 36 weeks because I would want to have everything ready by then so any gifts people got us would be useless or just annoying to try and find space for.

I personally had mine at 28 weeks.  Was showing just enough, still had energy (I planned my own), and then I had time to set up the nursery and buy whatever else I needed.
 
My friend who is only 5 weeks behind me is having hers around 36 weeks I believe.

I saw between 30-33 weeks. I had mine a little earlier to accommodate Christmas parties ( I was 28 weeks) I know I still would have been able to enjoy it a little later and would have preferred it. Due to advanced booking for Christmas events the date I ended up with  was the only date available until January....

If I were in your shoes I'd probably have a get together once baby is born. I might consider going there for a baby shower (25-30 weeks) and then having them come to you for a birth celebration as it's probably a lot to ask for them to make the trip twice
