anyone go on Prozac(generic name-fluoxetine) for postpartum depression??

-I was put on 20mg, once a day to help treat it today..did it work for you if you took it?? How long did it take??

Hello I am on the same dose as you. I was on it prior to pregnancy due to anxiety and I am
Prone to depression and came of it for the duration of my pregnancy with the guidance of my GP.  
My anxiety unfortunately came back after my beautiful boy was born fortunately for me(not saying this is you referring to my situation) I bonded with my boy but the anxiety came about due to being pre disposed to it, a traumatic birth and the inability to sleep due to the anxiety.  I went on it two weeks post partum sadly meaning I couldn't breast feed as I hadn't taken it through my pregnancy and my GP advised this course. It has worked fantastically for me and fully kicked in at about 6 weeks.  I am not good to lie conversely you may feel worse before you feel better which is the joy of Prozac/fluoxetine.  Once it kicks in though it's really helped me. Anti depressants aren't for everyone but for me I needed them stick with it and let me know how you get on. You've got this.

I was put on it 2 months ago, I would say it took a good 4-6 weeks to really feel the full effect but it's probably the best thing to happen to me. I was going through terrible fatigue and low energy and crying quite a bit, ugh! Good luck. Give it time.

I went on that as well and it worked great for me. I started on 20mg and noticed a change almost instantly.(could've been more a placebo effect but still) after a month or so my dose was increased to 40mg and then a month or so later it was increased again to 60mg. I had struggles after a few months ,that's why my dose increased. I also was seeing a psychiatric every other week for an hour. Maybe reaching out to someone, doesn't have to be someone at a doctor's office or a counseling place, just having someone to talk to and vent to helped me. (I saw the psychiatric because I had no friends or anyone to reach out to).  I hope you have success with this as well. Best of luck to you chicky.
