Is childbirth education classes necessary?

I am 18 weeks and have started to think on whether I should take these classes or not. In my hospital I believe they offer one whole day for $175, where they'll talk about labor,  delivery, and postpartum care.

I am a very anxious person and first time mom, and am not sure if this class would benefit me or just scare me more lol.

Has anyone taken or are going to take these type of classes? My husband says I shouldn't waste money, but I think knowing some good techniques for labor might help me. But could I also just get this information online lol

Hi! I am a first time mom too and I get anxious, nervous and worry very easily so the way I deal with new situation is to be as prepared as I can be, I get anxious when I don't know what's going to happen so I took a hospital tour last week and it made me feel better to know what to expect the day I am in labor and definitely signed up for the childbirth class( even though husband though it was going to be boring) as soon as he finish his statement I told him that I wanted to be as prepared as possible and I was going to need him that day to help me and be aware of what was going to happen. He apologized for his comment and is looking forward to spend two days of classes ($110). Is $175 is too much look for another hospitals or clinics that offer child birth classes and if you are planing to Brestfeed take a class too I heard that it's not as easy as you think. Good luck! My classes are March 11 and 12!

I think they are very useful, but probably not necessary they will make sure you do what your supposed to at the time.
