Going to the ER for a pregnancy test??

Is it just me or is going to the emergency room for a pregnancy test totally wrong? 
I just don't get it. In a pinch you can get one for $1 at a dollar store. Or go to your regular doctor for a test if you want to be sure. 
Why take up precious time from doctors at the hospital, who are trying to deal with actual emergencies?
