How far do I put in a tampon?

So I'm 18 and up until now, I've used pads. I just recently started using tampons but they're really uncomfortable, I can feel it when I'm walking or sitting or just doing anything active. I put the applicator in until it hits the grip and push the plunger in (I read the instructions lol) but it's just really uncomfortable. Please help! Thanks!

It sounds like you are doing it right. You want most or all of the cotton part inside, and just the string hanging out. If it is painful then maybe try a different brand. Certain brands on tampons are really painful for me for some reason (tampax and equate). And then others I have no problems with - can't feel it at all. Kotex is my favorite.

I had trouble putting tampons in until I got the guts to push it in just a little further. I was always afraid of hurting myself! But now I push until I can feel my fingers pretty much inside me, then I push the thing in (don't know the technical shit) with my other hand. Sometimes you just need to find ways to do it so it's comfortable for you.

You'll get used to them! Since you just started using them it'll seem weird for the first bit. and about how far to put them in.. I usually make sure most of the string (like ~90%) is out. They don't need to be shoved up in there for them to work.
