It was very uncomfortable menstral cramps. The drs tell you to take Motrin or a pain reliever beforehand, but that didn't help. She inserted a septum, then the little tube thing with the dye. That's where the cramping came into play.

I had a hsg test. It's uncomfortable and there was a pretty sharp pain for a few seconds but I think it was because both of my tubes are blocked so the dye had no where to go. It's over very quickly and I had a little spotting for the rest of the day.

Hey ladies, We do hsg testing at work. It is very important to complete the test within 10'days of your first day of your last menses. Basically what we do is have you lay down on an X-ray/fluoroscopy table. Then we insert a speculum (very similar to going to your OBGYN). We then have to insert a tiny catheter into the cervix. We have to inflate a tiny balloon about the size of your pinky nail in order to hold the catheter in place. That is the cramping feeling you get. From my experience women who have had children in the past usually tolerate the cramping a little better. Some say they don't really feel anything but pressure. Once the balloon is in place the X-ray contrast dye is injected (about 10-20cc depending on the size of your uterus) &it hopefully spills out both sizes of your Fallopian tubes. Some times we have you tilt one hip up while we take X-rays so that we can better see the Fallopian tubes.

After we get those images the balloon is deflated and the catheter &speculum are removed. Then you just feel this wet sticky contrast dye leak out. We recommend bringing a pad with you to wear the rest of the day. As you move more contrast will leak out and you may experience some spotting. That is all very normal. We don't want you to wear a tampon because you don't want to get an infection.
