How long do you have to wait before taking a pregnancy after you've had sex.

I took a pregnancy test 2 weeks after I had sex with my boyfriend even though we used protection, but I just want to make sure because I am not sure if I am spotting or just bleeding the old blood (which is very light). I am suppose to get my period this weekend. Please help me.
