laxatives during breastfeeding?

Are you allowed to take any type of laxative nor stool softener during breast feeding? I have gastroparesis and my sickness often deals with taking certain medications. I want to be able to breast feed but want to make sure my baby will be safe and healthy while I do so!

My understanding is that you can take a stool softener as long as it does NOT contain laxatives, but please ask your doctor before taking anything!

Colace! I took it for weeks after birth because I was scared of pooping haha and we breastfed successfully for over a year!
