Getting Engaged As A Teen. What do you think?

Question

So me and my boyfriend of 4 years want to get engaged. What do you think?? Please state some Pros and Cons.

Pros-

•the romantic ideas and dreams tht come with what you expect it to be like.

Cons-

• the harsh Reality of adulthood setting in and fully having to test the depth of tht love as you face hardships, which you will.

• even after you are 18, you are still growing mentally. Who you are will not be the same as who you will be in 5 years. Same for him. You may not be compatible by then.

• you miss out on a lot of "single" adult experiences, which may or may not be a big deal to some, but you never know what you will think in a few years.

Either way, take your time. I know it seems like being  grown up means getting to do everything you dream pf, but just remember you don't have to rush to make it all happen. Enjoy getting to have all the other freedoms that come with it.

I'd suggest maybe co-habitation. live together and see what you guys think after you get to know each other on that level.

Don't blink away your youth! We have forever to be old and married, but only a short time to be young.

From a married teen:

Pros:
-all the usual pros of getting engaged...the excitement...planning a wedding...discussing the future...marrying the love of your life...etc, etc.

Cons:
-nobody takes you seriously.
-you'll hear the words "it'll never work" far more than you want.
-you'll get discouraged.
-statistics will be thrown in your face about divorce rates and teen marriages failing
-you'll be judged. Harshly.

So basically...as long as you know it's right for you and you don't care what others say, you'll be fine, and it will be amazing.

Do what makes you feel peaceful. If you have doubt then that means you have uncertainty and some areas of fear aroubd being engaged as a teen. Inner peace does not hold space for doubt and worry. If ur questioning it, then it is also ok to say you want to be married and right now you dont want to be engaged until later. If you like the status if sayibg "i'm engaged" vs actually being engaged then question what this really means. If truly want to be engaged then be enegaged..just question question question.

My experience from my friends getting engaged as teens is that it didn't work out and it just ended up feeling like an engagement wasn't taken seriously.

For me getting engaged is not a symbol for "hey we love each other and we're together". For me it stands for "we love each other so much we can't imagine life without each other"

You've got plenty of time in your life to be engaged once your older and wiser.

I got engaged at 21 and everyone told us it will never work, y'all are to young, do you really love each other..... Anything negative they could think of. We have been married 6 months today

I got with my boyfriend when I was 15 and we got engaged a year later. It was a long engagement we felt that we didn't need to rush to get married we just enjoyed life together. 7yrs later we finally got married do what makes you both happy

My only con to getting engaged/married young is the financial aspect even though we had good jobs and were stable when we got married we still didn't know what we wanted to do with our lives and it has been a financial roller coaster! If we would have waited our credit would be much better and we would have had the ability to fall back on our parents while making life altering decision like going to college and finding careers.  Besides that I've loved growing up with my husband we are celebrating our 5th year of marriage this year and expecting our first child! You just have to be flexible and realize that you have to grow up together before you can grow old together.

I got engaged as a teenager and it did not end well. When I got engaged again as an adult, no one took it seriously because of what had happened before. I would advise that unless you're ready to get married soon, put off the engagement. You don't have to have one to have a meaningful relationship and there's not rush.

Are you financially stable enough to start your lives and pay for a wedding or are you just wanting to call yourselves engaged and wait years to get married? How long have you begin together? Are you happier more than sad? Are you positive you don't want to see what else is out there? I don't suggest it but I wanted to live a lot and finish school on my own and meet awesome people as well as travel independently.
