Electric Heating Pads for back pain?

What's the scoop for electric heating pads? What have your doctors said?  I have some lower back pain. Is it safe to use in moderation to relieve the pain?

My dr actually recommended it when I had kidney stones a few weeks ago. She just said don't have it on high and only use it for  30 mins then take a break and you can use it again. She said if I start getting hot then to take another break.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night without mine. But mine really doesn't get hot enough to raise my body temp, I don't get sweaty or anything. And it turns off by itself after a certain amount of time so if I accidentally fall asleep with it on, I don't have to worry about it being on me too long.

I've used one for lower back pain. I just put it on medium heat. My doctor said that as long as it's not too hot for my skin, it's not too hot or harmful to the baby.

Ditch the heating pads and use ice! Heat makes it worse. Plus its not good to put too much heat around the baby.

My doctors have advised against it. I've hear some say it's okay but only for a few minutes at a time and on the low setting. The main concern is higher body temperature focused on your lower back/abdominal are would make it too hot for the child's brain to develop normally. Maybe try a tylenol first? But feel free to do your own research on the matter and make your own decision, and ask your doctor eventually for sure.
