Baby registry

Is it just me or does it seem like most people don't go off your registry for things you actually ask for? I had 2 baby showers and most people took it upon themselves to buy what apparently they thought I needed. I have some stuff that I need to figure where it came from and exchange it for things I ACTUALLY need. I honestly don't know why we did a registry. Only thing that actually worked for us for it was the stroller, high chair and car seat which I'm grateful for because those are pricey.
