HMO OR PPO?

Question

Hello ladies!!
I have a question I just got Blue Shield Insurance through my job - currently I have PPO because I assumed its the best. I plan on having natural birth because I have acute scoliosis. I do not really know the difference - does anyone have some pros and cons for both HMO and PPO for me please. I have not even picked a doctor for my insurance and ive had it for almost 3 months now 😑

HMO means you can only see providers in network. PPO you can see in and out of network(though more expensive if out of network). Some providers may be in the PPO network and not HMO so if you know where you want to be seen, check to see which networks they participate in. PPOs pay providers more so you might experience better/quicker treatment but likely negligible care difference and a big cost difference

I work for blue cross blue shield an HMO is a plan that you can only see provider in your network with a PPO it's a preferred provider so you can see in and out of network providers. I work with PPO so I'm not to familiar with the HMO.
