How do we do it?

Question

How does our country strive for better vetting to stop terrorists from coming into this country by posing as refugees or overstaying their visas? At the end of the day, how do we do that? I think the media has totally overshawdoed the purpose/issue here. How do we secure our country more while still pleasing everyone? We have legitimate refugees who need our support, but we also have terrorist posing as refugees who have made it through our current vetting system. Let's leave our political views out for a second  and debate about ways to improve our countries borders.

Coming to our country with refugee status is one of the most difficult ways to get into the country. It's not like someone is labeled a refugee and they are immediately brought here. It can take anywhere from 18 month to 3 years to be vetted. The terrorist attacks in America in recent years have been by radicalized American citizens most of which expressed views of feeling ostracized because of their ethnicity. Those that recruit actually look for people that feel that way and continue to breed anger by telling them that America doesn't care for people of middle eastern descent. To fight that particular recruiting tool we need to show these people that we do care, we want to help and we understand their plight but unfortunately so many Americans have been forced fed this fear that a terrorist will come in as a refugee that I don't think anything will change.

Can someone name a terrorist who has posed as a refugee? I'm trying to figure out how much of a threat that is.

I admit, I haven't once been concerned about terrorists posing as refugees because that requires a lot of espionage for like no benefit. If they want to have people in the US they can recruit people in the US from wherever they are through the Internet. It also probably helps that I don't have some big irrational fear of the Middle East.

I think one of the major problems with the confusion is people don't look at the "media source" they see an article on facebook, click it, read it, get pissed off and have a misinformed rant and they look rather stupid. Huffington post is not an accredited news source. Most are blogs and ANYBODY can write a post in them. I'm just saying. That goes for the extreme "were under attacks by terrorist" and also "trump is trying to ban everyone and what we believe" you honestly can't even believe half of what's on CNN and the other news channels because ultimately they are all biased. They all edit clips. They all pick and chose and that's the problem. But it's your responsibility as a citizen to not make assumptions and to do your own actual researching. And for the record, I do not believe closing the borders or building a wall will keep anyone out (or in).

Most terrorists are being tracked, we have no fly lists, they watch out on social media. I mean for as many people who hate America I think our government is doing a good job. It's the one offs that fall through the cracks. People who have been here for years or people who have no ties to the terrorist organizations, but do things in their name. I mean that's impossible to stop. You would have to get rid of all guns. Anything that could make a bomb. All sharp objects... it's just impossible.
