Engagement Ring Cost

I love looking at engagement rings, I'm not engaged yet but my boyfriend has been looking at them online and has a folder of them favorited. Anyways I see a lot of post on here about size, style, cost, etc. I just wanted to know is it normal to know how much your ring cost? I feel like its rude to ask and shouldn't matter anyway unless its for insurance purposes, lol.
