Nuva Ring? Long post

So starting today I'm changing my birth control from pills to nuva ring. I originally wanted an IUD as I am NOT trying to have child any time soon but my gyno suggested this instead. Soo is there anything I should know about it? Or just others' experiences with it? How long does it take for it to start working? And how long should I wait before I have sex? I took my pills regular and my boyfriend and I usually have unprotected sex (dumb I know spare me the lecture) and we've been fine for almost a year so I was curious if that would still be the case with nuva ring or if we should wait a week? Any comments would be helpful, thanks!
