Tampons after birth?

I know it's a no no for at least six weeks or until your doctor approved.. but I'm asking for the ladies who didn't listen. Did you have any problem? Did you get an infection? Why did you start to use them and when? I'm three and a half weeks pp and I'm down to spotting and when my husband bought pads this last time.. bought the giant ones lol So I'm super tired of wearing them considering I'm just spotting and I'm not going to go buy smaller ones.. I have some tampons though.. sooo, thoughts?
