Do you believe you have more rights to your child than the child's father?

I feel like some women believe that they have more rights to their children because they carried them for 9 months and birthed them. They think just because they are their mother, they have more of a right to the children. I disagree. I believe every parent has equal rights unless one has done something that makes them no longer trustworthy.

I really think it depends on the situation. Its hard to make a blanket statement yes or no. However i think children are NOT pawns to be used as weapons against anyone and that as parents is our responsibility to do everything possible to have both parents in kids lives. That means sharing decision making and being concious of the other parents thoughts ideas and feelings. Theres a lot of grey area there but i think we fail our children when we cut out a parent without just cause. It takes two people to create a child. There should be two people involved in raising the child.

I believe that women are more likely to feel a biological responsibility than men are.  It's just the way that we are designed.  And, that is why the court system favors women.  So, as long as a woman hasn't shown herself to be unfit, then she is the more natural choice as primary caregiver.

If it wasn't for the father the child wouldn't exist. She didn't get pregnant by herself. Therefore, the dad should have just as many rights as she does. Unless hes done something that causes otherwise (violent, getting on drugs etc.)  Just because the women carry the baby and give birth doesn't make a difference and entitle her to more than the father.  Thus why i don't get along with most feminists. Because they may say they believe in equal rights but most think juat because theyre women they are entitled to things

I don't feel like I have more rights but when it comes to my kids, I make every decision about them. Which doctor, schools, everything. I always have..

After the child is no longer within my body, the father has the same rights as me, so long as he has done nothing to challenge those rights (such as put himself, me, or our child in danger)

While I carry the child, however, all rights are with me, as they involve my body, and no man will ever have the right to control my body.

I agree also! I hate when I see mothers wanting to make all decisions for their kids without taking the father into consideration. Specially when they are no longer together, mothers feel entitled to having more rights over the children but fathers must provide more because they are the fathers "only".

My husband and I have both agreed that if we ever did separate, I would get the kids. I've poured my entire life into these children, and I am the one who meets their emotional and physical needs. It's not saying he doesn't love them or provide for them, but it would be so much harder on them to live with him. If they stay with me, it'll still be life as usual, just they only see daddy on weekends. We're very happy together though. Hopefully we won't ever have to deal with it.

No. My husband will have the same right to our children. He's the father, half the DNA, supporting me in my pregnancy. Financial and emotional support. He will also be playing wih the baby and helping feed and things. Just because my body carried the child to be formed doesn't mean I have more rights.

Answering your initial question I would say yes, based on the way the US court system generally handles custody and support. Do I think it's right, no. I'm happily married so in our situation it's equal. If we weren't, right or wrong, the courts would favor me simply because I'm the mother.
