baby sitting advice?

Okay so I asked my sons grandmother on his fathers side if she could watch him for a couple hours and her response is "How much are you gonna pay me? Lol" 
I'm not paying his flesh and blood to watch him for two hours that's ridiculous .... am I wrong to feel like I shouldn't have to pay her to watch her own grandson she should already want to...

Everyone in my family watches each other's kids and pets for free. Because that's what family does. My grandmother has been watching all her grandkids for years. Not all at once and not everyday but she has watched all of them at some point or another and for long periods. One day when my kids have babies I'll gladly watch my grandkids for free.

Umm I completely disagree with the previous comment. I would agree if it was like a niece/nephew trying to get into the babysitting game or distant relative but the kids grandma! No no no. You will be paid in baby smiles and BONDING TIME with your GRANDCHILD. Your money for the most part needs to go towards things for baby, diapers, wipes, clothing etc. and it's not like GMa is paying for all of that so her time and efforts put in will be babysitting. Unless you're like completely screwing her schedule by watching her grandson for literally 2 hours, you don't owe her a penny.  But that's just me.

Try to understand that she is setting boundaries. And that's ok!

If you don't have the money, or if she ends up doing it any way, try to do something nice for her, like take some cookies or a framed pic of the baby or something. A gesture of gratitude will go a long way. Good luck!

I already know my family would babysit for free (because they keep telling me as soon as my baby is born, I should drop it off to them so they can babysit, and I can go there on the weekend. They are really excited for a baby). But if I was specifically asking my sister to babysit at my apartment, I would pay her. Only because she's too young to legally get a job, and I know she could use the money (she is vegan, and my mom complains about how much vegan food costs). Plus I know my sister is the only one that would actually feed my baby only fully healthy things)

Family babysits for free where I'm from. It's a given. We shouldn't expect to be paid for babysitting family memes however if money is offered then we can accept it.

I disagree with the other poster. My MIL will be watching my son while we work and would never expect a dime. My 'grandma' my god mothers mom took me and my sisters every weekend bought us tons paid 4 grand each for our private education. My mom has never once asked for a damn dime to watch any of my 9 nephews and nieces. As family rights especially being his mom I don't think you should have to pay her. Your right she should want too. I've never heard of a grandma asking for payment lol that's crazy on a whole new level in my opinion. Maybe if you left the baby for a week or something lol but to help for two hours? Nope. Not happening. Sorry lady you don't need to watch my child
