Long term effects?

Hey everyone. I'm 20 years old and a university student. My period is never on time and always comes with the worst cramps before and during it. I was told birth control could lessen my cramps and make my period regular and I'm really interested in it. But my boyfriend and I are concerned about any long term effects there might be in regards to getting pregnant later on.  Can anyone give me some insight please? Thanks 🙂

On the pill for seven years! Came off fell pregnant the first month of trying ! No affects for me. There is only the slightest slightest effects not likely :)

I'm a vet student but I have a few human doctors for professors. So when we talk about giving drugs and hormones to animals we do get a lot of human examples and when you're in a college filled with girls birth control is a really easy one to use. There's no evidence that birth control will affect your ability to get pregnant at all. Every doctor I've talked to personally and all my teachers (who actually explained all the physiological reasons why) have all said that women you can't get pregnant after the pill likely couldn't get pregnant in the first place and are only now finding out.

When you add the estrogen and progesterone you're supplementing your own hormones. Basically you're body thinks it's pregnant so you don't ovulate. The hormones are synthetic but that doesn't make them bad for your body (insulin for diabetics is synthetic along with a lot of other hormone therapies). The pill will not hurt your chances of getting pregnant at all (once you're off the pill that is).

The only side effects that you do need to be concerned about are the ones like blood clots and strokes. But your doctor should go over a checklist with you that makes sure you're not at risk for stuff like that (basically if you are at risk they don't like putting you on the pill but if you're not at risk the chances are incrediably slim so I wouldn't worry). Other side effects like mood swings are much more common. They're the only ones I've ever had and I've switched pills so many times just to ind one that didn't turn me into a crazy person.

The pill is safe. Otherwise it wouldn't be produced. Talk to your doctor before going on it about any concerns. They can probably explain it better than I can.

I personally don't like the pill. It's full of false/fake hormones, it throws your body out of its normal statues, basically it makes you infertile. It has negative side effects. And it really hasn't been around for long enough to know the damage it could really be doing. Have you seen a doctor at all? Maybe there is something else going on with your body that you're unaware of?
