Yes, ovulation is the release of a mature egg. If there's no egg, then you can't get pregnant.

However, ovulation can occur at different times in your cycle each month and sperm can live for up to a week inside you, so you can get pregnant at literally ANY time during your cycle.

But if you don't ovulate (either due to a medical issue or on purpose, such as birth control pills) then you can get pregnant. Obviously birth control isn't able to stop it 100% in all women though, which is why some women can get pregnant while taking it.

Don't be rude to her. Not everyone knows about this stuff. I didn't learn anything about sex ed until I actually researched it online. I never had any classes in school going over any of the things a lot of women are posting up in these forums.
