Midwives or OBGYN?

Question

I've been to both, and I've gotta say, I definitely like midwives more. What do you guys think?

This is my first baby and I have an appt with a midwife in 3 weeks. My best friend has done both and had a fabulous experience with her midwives. I have also requested a birth centre birth. I hate needles and iv's so I hope I can handle the pain and stay low risk! I like that midwives study pregnancy and birth for 4 full years. And are women. I don't know I just think it's the right fit for me.

I'm a Registered Nurse so I am partial to "nurses". I'm planning on using a midwife if I'm low risk. Nurses are trained throughout their schooling to be holistic and care about the whole patient. Physicians typically see a set of symptoms and lab values and treat off of that. Just my opinion.....& I'm not bashing physicians because I have met some awesome ones. Statistically speaking though midwives have just as good statistics, if not better.

Also midwives do not resort to c-section as often as physicians do. They are typically for a more natural approach instead if convenience.

I don't have any experience with midwives but LOOOVE my OBGYN. She's amazing and very knowledgable. She didn't force anything I didn't want on me and took very good care of me and my daughter. For me, I needed the comfort of knowing if anything went wrong she was right there and I was in a hospital. I know some hospitals offer midwives and birthing 
centers and all that. But for me then and in the future, my OBGYN is the route I'm taking. ?

I would of loved to go the midwife route.  I have to small of an outlet for my babies to pass through. I feel jipped, my husband doesn't understand it. I also don't produce any breast milk. :/ maybe #3 will be different

I used certified nurse midwives for my first pregnancy.  Don't think I would go any other way.  Received a lot of attention during my appointments and got to know both midwives very well.  Delivered in a very nice birthing center inside of a well respected hospital.  One of the midwives was with me the entire time during active labor.  I could not have done it without pain medication without her support.  The ob/gyn (who the midwives work "under") ended up being paged during the pushing portion, and she saved my babies life without the need for c-section, vacuum, or forceps.

My obgyn office has a midwife and two doctors. I absolutely love the midwife! I am actually going to school to pursue a career as a midwife, I have lots of schooling to complete still. Midwives usually only handle low risk pregnancies.

Do midwives also support high risk pregnancies? I have type 2 diabetes and would love to use a midwife but am not sure if they are allowed to deal with potential high risk patients?
