I tried breast feeding with my first. Thanks to PCOS and the hormone issues that go along it it, I don't produce enough to feed a baby. I tried to increase supply, with on demand feedings and pumping in between...supplements....medications.  I was was "supplementing" with as much formula as I would be feeding him without breast feeding....so I gave up. I had terrible guilt about all of it. It took a while for me to see how much happier I was once I quit trying to breast feed. The transformation our son made after switching to formula (from always crying always hungry, almost diagnosed with "failure to thrive" to happy, chunky baby) was incredible.

This time around, I am formula feeding from the start. I have a four year old and a husband that depend on me to be a stable human being. I am definitely not that while dealing with the pressures of breast feeding and being unable to produce.

My plan is to have baby exclusively breast fed for the first 6 months. Then we can start introducing formula since that's when he will start part time daycare. But all plans must be flexible!

I'd like to say breast feeding only but I am trying not to end up disappointed. With my daughter I had to do a mix of both because I wasn't producing enough and she kept losing weight. So I alternated between the two. I'm hopeful things will go smoother this time around.
