Can epidural make you paralyzed?

Only 5 more days till my due and I'm getting soo nervous! I originally wanted to do a natural with some pain killers birth but as the day gets closer I get more scared.
So anyway, I'm scared that getting an epidural can make you paralyzed? Has this ever happened? Or any other scary side effects? I would also hate not being able to feel my legs!
I'm just getting scared of the childbirth pain :(

I didn't want an epidural either, my reason was since I'm allergic to anesthesia I might be allergic to the epidural as well. I was induced at 41+1. After my water was broken the pain was too much and I asked for an epidural. It numbed me so much I couldn't feel either leg. But I was pain free, I was so happy with my epidural. But my fears were realized I was allergic to the epidural and my tempature spiked and the nurses assumed that I had an infection and told me that my baby would have an infection and would have to be in the nicu after birth. It wasn't until 20 hours later that I was told that I didn't have an infection and that my baby wouldn't need to be in the nicu for that. That was my biggest worry. I ended up with a c section after 26 hours of labor I failed to progress at either 9.5 or 10 cm dialated, the nurses couldn't decide. But my baby and I were both fine. When I have my next child it will be a repeat c section but if I hadn't had a c section I would never attempt a vaginal birth without a epidural.

I was in the same boat I didn't want to get the epidural. I was also scared of getting it due to the problems it could cause. I ended up getting it because I was induced and I was in labor for 38 hours. The first day was okay my body was in early labor but I wasn't in that much pain they stopped the inducing medicane so I could sleep but they never let you sleep they kept coming in every hour. The next day the broke my water because I was still 1cm. So the uped my medicane.  My contractions were one minute apart for seven hours . I was still only 2cm Not to mention I was in back labor. I could barely breathe. I decided to get the epidural. Best choice I ever made because I needed to rest. Go in it with an open mind. You will do great trust me it's so worth it all no matter what happens. Keep us updated

I loved the epidural. Took all the pain away and at 10cm dialated I wanted to have a nap!! Haha but it was time to push :-(

No it can't.  There's a difference between a spinal and an epidural

They are supposed to do it in the lower lumbar region which is past the spinal cord region. The spinal cord goes from T12 to L3. They usually place the epidural below L3 so no it won't do that to you.
