So my husband and I have the opportunity to get a newborn as soon as she is born. The mom is in jail (she will be out about a month/month and a half before the baby is born) and the dad is in jail for a loooong time. So with that being said the mom is set in signing her rights up and over to my husband and myself. But we plan on adopting the baby later down the road by the end of the year. Just curious as to if anyone has been on either side of this. I had a friend give up her baby when he was born to her friend and all they did was sign her rights up and over, which is the legal paperwork at the hospital and then adopt him later on. The mom of this baby said she would rather have her drugs. She is supposed to be sending her ultrasound pictures along with other information regarding the baby and birthplace, etc. My husband and I just want to be covered and not get hurt by having the baby taken away. Any info especially legal info would be of great help!
